We’re seriously lucky to be friends with the folks that put on the superb (and free) RUMBLE show series, as they’ve always been on the cusp of new talent. By constantly booking regional bands that are just about to break nationwide (as well as already established bands), the RUMBLE kids and their shows are a great place to hear music right before everyone else does. Here’s what organizers Future Sounds wrote about Chicago’s entrance into the series…

“THE RUMBLE continues to grow – this time opening it’s doors in it’s 9th city – CHICAGO – on April 12th at The Hideout! The lineup for this first ever event puts together some of our favorites like THE GREAT SOCIETY MIND DESTROYERSPET LIONS and RAMBOS. As always, the event is FREE to the city of Chicago.

See all details surrounding this party HERE.

Finding a home for this special event was easy, well, after polling all our friends in Chicago, they all kept saying it had to go to THE HIDEOUT, and after getting to know them and finding out how much they actually help local talent year in and year out, it was an easy match.”

If every privileged suburban white kid’s Scarface poster has taught us anything, it’s that Miami, the decadent Floridian coastal city, is one big fiesta of music, booze, exaggerated Cuban accents, and ski slopes. (All the time, but more so during certain weekends of the year.) Like the upcoming Ultra Music Festival, or when Lebron James wins the Heat a championship. Only one of which is scheduled to happened, and since Lebron is more of a jester than a goddamn king, you best believe it’s Ultra.

And on the fringe of the festival, our black-clad friends at the New York late-night Trouble & Bass label have teamed up with Overthrow to put on an event that’ll feature two full rooms of nightmare and dark bass music called Black Magick Party. (See, the added ‘K’ means it’s extra demonic.) Read More…

This upcoming Saturday marks the fire-sale exit of one of Chicago’s premiere party planners/photogs and genuinely all around swell guy, Clayton Hauck. Lately doing big boy work for publications like the Wall Street Journal, he’s perhaps best known for his nightlife and liquor-faced website everyoneisfamous.com (that, or maybe his varying degrees of facial hair over the years). Hauck’s been out of the party snapping game for a few months now (his site says “hiatus”), but this weekend will be his final adieu from Windy City party purgatory. No more digi pics of femme-boys and chunky girls wearing too-tight clothes for Clayton. Nope. No siree. He’s saying arividerchi, you goddamn turkeys!

Claychella 5, Hauck’s yearly shindig which this year he is toting as his “last party ever” (pronounced evvaaahhhh), is an all day event going down at Chicago’s Lincoln Hall. Lots of DJs, mostly friends and acquaintances acquired over the years (including VEOBA’s own Grand Poobah, JAYDAVID), will provide the majority of entertainment with loads of food and drinks specials assisting. Plus it’s free before 10pm with cheap tickets thereafter. You know, all the makings of a fantastic party.

Doors open at noon with 22 different acts/sets throughout the day. More info here.

With AUBURN’s single dropping a couple weeks back and gaining ground ever since, it’s about time the duo (veteran producer Eliot Lipp and Chicago MC vyle) release some accompanying visuals. The stylized video for their debut track “Ultramodern Verandah” will be screened this Friday at Chicago’s Beauty Bar along with DJ performances by Rob Threezy (Trouble and Bass), Young Live (Box of Milk) and JayDavid. Vyle will be on hand, supplying hosting duties, and the party is completely free. Lots of surprises, lots of giveaways. Shit’s gonna be crazy.

More info here.

This Friday, October 29th is the record release party for Kingdom of the Dead, Bird Peterson’s new EP for HOTDOG Records. It’s a two song banger that’s going to fit right in with the Halloween weekend crowd. Listen to the title track and read our review we did right har. Peterson’s going to be in the house, as well as Chicago’s GANT-MAN and Marco Morales. The event’s free and kicks off around 11pm at Evil Olive. More info here. Read More…

It being Wednesday, we understand how busy you probably are. Under the fluorescents, tirelessly getting all Loverboy and shit (you know, working for the weekend). But we have another rendition of The Exchange happening this Friday at Lumen. So get ready. Brought to you by our friends at Bandit Productions, we’re welcoming Franki Chan (IHEARTCOMIX) in from Los Angeles. He’ll be spinning, along with Windy City locals Kid Color, Skyler, and Disco Death Threat. There’s going to be plenty of booze specials, and if you remember to RSVP here, you’ll snag an open bar wristband for $20. Fancy. More details here.

Just because it’s Tuesday doesn’t mean one can’t start planning the weekend fun, right? That’s what we thought. This Friday we’ve got The Exchange on tap. Nutso DJ sets coming from mixtape killers Mustard Pimp (France/LA) along with Chi-town locals, Yours Truly and E-Six. And it won’t cost a dime to get your ass through the doors with drink specials coming all night. Plus, if you RSVP on DO312, you can lock down an open bar from 9PM – midnight for $20. Things kick off at 9 at Lumen. Come listen to good music and drink your weight in booze. More details here.

This Wednesday night head on over to Chicago’s Lasalle Power Co. for some synth heavy entertainment coming from NYC’s Penquin Prison and the Windy City’s own Hey Champ. Hosted by Jeff Baraka, shit is going to be insane.

It’s all gettin’ started at 8pm sharp with DJ Izzo spinning off and on all night, as well as a featured performance by Battle Royale winner, Pictures of Then. AND it’s all free just as long as you RSVP to events@musicdealers.com. Find more details here.

Nothing like live music to make Wednesday a little less chump and a little more hump. See ya on Wednesday night!

We’ve actually been waiting for this date for a while now. Just Desserts #10 is this Saturday, September 11th! Yes, yes it’s an infamous date. Much respect and sadness, but let’s get down regardless. Our pal Kid Static is swinging back home, performing alongside his friend’s The Hood Internet. They collaborated on a 7” a while back and this variation of Clayton Hauck’s Lincoln Hall takeover is acting as the record’s release show. Get familiar with with their Olympic-sized video for the song “Chi-City” here. Also making the trek? Oakland, California’s Wallpaper and disco-heavy throwbacks DVAS. In from Montreal, ay! DJ sets by Kid Color and Just Desserts.

Party starts at 10:30 and it’s 18 + (21 to drink). AND it’s only $10. More info here. This is going to be good.

The city might as well be nothing but a humdrum town during this mid-week hump day. Overcast skies rest uneasily on the top floors of a varied downtown skyline. It’s all rain and gloom in the streets of Chicago. Cheer up, cheer up. Let’s reminisce about sunshine past. Couple weeks back Mad Decent arrived and threw down its final stop on their travelin’ block party. Here’s a quick wrap up w/ a video recap! Read More…
