The city might as well be nothing but a humdrum town during this mid-week hump day. Overcast skies rest uneasily on the top floors of a varied downtown skyline. It’s all rain and gloom in the streets of Chicago. Cheer up, cheer up. Let’s reminisce about sunshine past. Couple weeks back Mad Decent arrived and threw down its final stop on their travelin’ block party. Here’s a quick wrap up w/ a video recap!

Basting in Saturday sun on the cracked pavement that lay between the Hideout and its industrial neighbors, Mad Decent and Jelly came in bearing food, booze, music, and an overall carnival vibe. Dunk tanks, burgers with all da fixings, photo-booths, beer tents, toilet paper guns, and confetti poppers; all added to a great, hometown heavy lineup. Willy Joy kicked things off, followed by Paul Devro, Ghetto Division, and PO PO. Then Freddie Gibbs plowed through half a set of Gary, Indiana hip-hop before the sound system’s generator bit the dust. Literally no music for, like, two hours. But instead of the crowd getting all uppity and whatnot, the numbers actually seemed to swell. Kids continued to pile in before electricity kicked back on. Lickin’ lips, waiting for more. Plugged in and powered up, Gibbs picked right up where he left off, then Maluca tore it up, as did Bosco Delrey, and Blaqstarr. Closing down the night? Hometown girl Kid Sister. Backed by Willy Joy, she tore through her set as the sun settled down and the moon crawled high. Crazy day. Starry night. We’ll see what happens next year.
